Kars: unnofficial “cheese capital” of Turkey

Kars is not a big city but it’s the largest in the northeast part of Turkey after Erzurum. It is famous because if its mixed architectural style. There you can found old Armenian, Ottoman, Russian and modern Turkish buildings. About 40 years Kars was a part of the Russian Empire.

Also tourists are going there to see old castle and other fortifications around it. But Kars is famous inside Turkey not only because of historic sights but also local cheese production. I think the best Turkish cheese is made in this area. You can see it in many stores located in the center of the city.
