A small resort village, Akyaka is located on the shore of a bay deeply penetrating the mainland. Inçekum beach, so popular among the visitors of Marmaris, lies on the opposite side of the bay. We will speak about Inçekum latter, so let’s talk about a more “secret” place now. There is, however, nothing secret about Akyaka and the village is quite visible from the serpentine part of the Fethiye-Mugla highway.
Local terrain it is not appropriate for scaled hotel “monsters”, and even the biggest of hotel complexes consist of small building compounds huddling near the coastline. Those looking for a place without noisy night parties in Turkey, where tourists are exceptionally quiet and well behaved, are strongly recommended to consider Akyaka. This resort is very similar to Kash, which we discussed not too long ago.
Akyaka is dominated by two types of visitors – quiet retired Europeans and active youth coming here for kiting rather than loafing about local clubs and bars. Russian is not popular here yet, though the hotels and restaurants staff have seriously improved in English and German. By the way, the word Akyaka translates as “white collar” from Turkish.
